Mr. March
Mr. March fought during the Civil War on the Union side. For the beginning of the novel, we only hear about him as a character from Mrs. March and the daughters. The reader does not meet him until about halfway throughout the novel. After his first arrival home from the war, he does not make a big appearance. He tends to stay in the background for most of the novel, while still supporting his children to the best of his ability. He seems to be an ideal father, and is very loved by his family.
